On the most recent municipal election day in Sweetwater, the head of the Miami-Dade Elections Department, Alina García, was not present at her post — the most important responsibility she holds. Meanwhile, interim mayor Pepe Díaz was seen entering the voting precinct multiple times, along with members of his administration, without visible supervision or clear justification.

This leads us to ask:

• What is the role of the Miami-Dade Elections Department?
• What is the specific function of its director?
• Shouldn’t she be physically present on the most important day of the electoral calendar?

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN SWEETWATER?

Sweetwater has become the epicenter of a democratic credibility crisis. The surveillance cameras at the election site must be urgently reviewed to determine:

• Demand an official explanation from the elections chief for her absence during the election.

• Make public a detailed report on protocols related to public officials entering active voting sites.

Florida’s democratic system cannot be left to silence, complicity, or old habits. This is not about political parties — this is about principles. We demand that the person directing our elections be present, that elected officials not abuse their power, and that citizens regain confidence in the electoral process.
