WHO IS WATCHING THE ELECTIONS IN MIAMI-DADE?. A citizen complaint about the lack of supervision, political interference, and institutional silence

On the most recent municipal election day in Sweetwater, the head of the Miami-Dade Elections Department, Alina García, was not present at her post — the most important responsibility she holds. Meanwhile, interim mayor Pepe Díaz was seen entering the voting precinct multiple times, along with members of his administration, without visible supervision or clear justification.

This leads us to ask:

  • What is the role of the Miami-Dade Elections Department?
  • What is the specific function of its director?
  • Shouldn’t she be physically present on the most important day of the electoral calendar?
  • How many times is a public official allowed to enter a polling place while voting is ongoing?

These are not rhetorical questions. These are demands for transparency.

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN SWEETWATER?

Sweetwater has become the epicenter of a democratic credibility crisis. The surveillance cameras at the election site must be urgently reviewed to determine:

  • How many times interim mayor Pepe Díaz entered the polling station.
  • Which members of his administration accompanied him.
  • What interactions they had with precinct officials.
  • Why these incidents were never officially reported.

The community has the right to know whether rules were broken, whether there was undue influence, and whether the elections took place under the most basic principles of justice.

WHERE WAS ALINA GARCÍA?

Instead of being present on a day of municipal elections — when her role as electoral supervisor is irreplaceable — Alina García, the new head of the Elections Department, was at an event, absent, disconnected from what was happening in one of the most publicly questioned municipalities in the county.

Shouldn’t her priority have been to be physically present at the county’s most problematic polling site that day?

CALL TO RON DESANTIS

Governor Ron DeSantis:

From News Miami Dade, and as concerned citizens, we ask that you:

  • Order an audit of the surveillance cameras at the Sweetwater polling station.
  • Demand an official explanation from the elections chief for her absence during the election.
  • Evaluate the performance of the Miami-Dade Elections Department regarding its duties.
  • Make public a detailed report on protocols related to public officials entering active voting sites.

Florida’s democratic system cannot be left to silence, complicity, or old habits. This is not about political parties — this is about principles. We demand that the person directing our elections be present, that elected officials not abuse their power, and that citizens regain confidence in the electoral process.

The residents of Miami-Dade can no longer tolerate this level of mismanagement. Democracy is built on oversight, participation, and accountability. If elections are not respected — what remains?

We will not stay silent. Today we demand:

🗳️ Mandatory presence of the elections chief on every voting day
🎥 Public review of precinct surveillance footage
⚖️ Legal accountability for officials who interfere with the process
📢 Immediate action from Governor DeSantis

📢 URGENT CALL TO MIAMI-DADE RESIDENTS

Neighbors! Citizens! Parents, grandparents, youth, workers!
We cannot remain silent while our democratic rights are trampled before our very eyes. What happened in Sweetwater—with officials entering the polling place without supervision and the head of the Elections Department absent from her duties—is not normal, is not acceptable, and must never be repeated.

🚨 The elections in Sweetwater.
🗳️ Tomorrow could be your city, your district, your vote.

It’s not about political colors.
It’s about principles, honesty, respect for the people.
And if the people don’t watch, power abuses.

Wake up, Miami-Dade!
We can’t continue to allow the same old people to manipulate, profit from, and circumvent a system that belongs to the people, not an elite.

What can you do?

✅ Inform your neighbors.
✅ Share this report on your social media.
✅ Attend community meetings.
✅ Demand transparency from your elected officials.
✅ Contact Governor Ron DeSantis and request an intervention and audit.

📣 Democracy doesn’t defend itself. We defend it.
This is not a time for silence. It’s a time for action.
